DE CULINAIRE WERKPLAATS

De culinaire werkplaats is an eating concepts restaurant that among other specialties is particularly known for its fruit and vegetable paper.
Founded by textile designer Marjolein Wintjes and chef Eric Meuring, de culinaire werkplaats focuses on a blend of food, design and art.

A wide range of fruit and vegetable paper is made in-house and used both in their dishes and for conceptual art work. The paper, which is created from the juice of blended plants, is laid flat in a de-hyrdrator and later used for a variety of purposes. Each meal at the restaurant highlights one of the flavored papers during its five courses.
Wintjes and Meuring have also used the paper in other projects, promoting the idea of sustainable fashion by creating clothing and accessories with the edible paper. The result is elegant and visually striking, creating a personal connection between food, the creator and the consumer.

Brindle Room Donuts

Try the new donuts at the Brindle Room in the East Village. Hot and Fresh! More in the cake family than the fluffy category, they are full of wonderfully crunchy bits on the outside. And while the chocolate-peanut-butter flavor is almost more of a cupcake, the fresh caramel and the powdered sugar donuts are outstanding.

Omonia Bakery by Bluarch

Antonio Di Oronzo, principal of bluarch architecture + interiors + lighting, designed the interior of the Omonia Bakery in New York City.
This bakery is a brand new project for the family that behind the renowned Omonia brand famous for its Greek pastries. It sells pastries and breads prepared on premises in the see-through kitchen.
The design of this store celebrates indulgence… the suspension of one’s everyday grind through the consumption of a sweet delight. The space is soft and warm… sexy and decadent… as chocolate.
Much like the physiognomy of a pastry, this design wants to offer the exciting anticipation of a pastry in-fieri… the liquid concoction, the minced ingredients…  The space shifts organically with the narrative of flavors as patrons taste the succulent delicacies.

Alinea Restaurant

I just added the Alinea Restaurant in Chicago to my foodie dream list. Do you keep one of those? A list of places both elegant and causal that you want to try around the world?
At Alinea there is a 12 and 23-course experimental menu where the food seriously looks like little sculptures created under the direction of the amazing chef Grant Achatz. I believe you have to reserve months in advance but wow... what a place to try. Have any of you been there?

Twister Restaurant, Kiev

Twister is a newly opened restaurant in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The design team, Sergey Makhno and Vasily Butenko also of Kiev, work on residential and commercial interiors and architecture but we are particularly fascinated by their furniture and their sculptural approach to interiors.
In Twister, the duo has captured the upward pull of a tornado in the main two-storey dining area with furnishings that seem to hover above the floor on their super-slim legs, with light fixtures resembling rain drops, and with massive sculptural columns that are in fact crow's-nest balconies.

Tatami ;Kuwait

Jassim AIShehab designed the japanese restaurant located in the business district “downtown Kuwait” using the japanese tatami mats as design concept.
The layout intended to utilize the building main facade for the restaurant seating and eliminate any distracting elements in that area.
I haven't tried it yet but would love to !

A Sweet Breakfast Treat

The delicious French Toast Doughnuts from the French Bistro Café Stella in Silver Lake, LA. Every brunch here now starts by sharing an order of this sweet delight. As if a glazed doughnut wasn't good enough on its own, they've been dipped in french toast batter and cooked on the grilled for layers of sweet, soft, and crispy goodness. My mouth is salivating reliving it right now.
